In 1968 Ralph H. Baer completed the first home console prototype called the Brown Box. He got the idea for the Brown Box when he was discussing designs for a new TV set with his colleagues and he thought if they added some sort of interactive game to the TV it would stand out from the competition. In 1966 when Ralph was sitting bored at a bus stop he started thinking about his idea of an interactive video game machine. With this he started to write his idea down on paper. The first game he made was a Chase game, where two squares could move on screen in both directions while being controlled by 2 players. The Brown Box had varies different games which you could play, they were Ping-Pong, Checkers, four different sports games, target shooting game and a golf putting game. The Brown Box was then licensed to Magnavox in 1971 and was renamed Magnavox Odyssey. The console was released to the public in 1972.
