The earliest known interactive electronic game was the Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device. The Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device was constructed in 1947 by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr and Estle Ray Mann.

The gameplay for this was to turn a control knob to position the CRT beam over an airplane and press a button to fire at the airplane which would then show an explosion if it was hit.
